King George III and his Long Hair
Back in the middle ages in Europe, long hair was used by many to judge the people who had it. If you had long hair it was attributed to freedom and nobility in Ireland, while those with shorter hair were often seen as servants and peasants. If you look at the artwork of the period, you will see how long hair is present on kings and other men in power. In Ireland and England there were different views about long hair. Those who had long hair in England were thought to be rejecting their English culture, where as if one had short hair in Ireland then they were thought to be rejecting their Irish culture.
Does this sound familiar but with a twist? Today it seems that the hair length of men is looked at a little differently. In the workplace long hair has been frowned upon and discouraged. Though there seems to be a loosening of the of this belief, short hair remains the norm in this country. Lets all look back at our “roots” and remember the way it was.
